Owen Wister

About the Author

Owen Wister (1860–1938) was an American writer. Born to a prominent Philadelphia family, Wister attended Harvard and studied music in Paris before becoming a lawyer, but it was his experiences on ranches in Wyoming that inspired his writing about the American West. He is best known for his novel The Virginian, which is considered a foundational work of the Western genre.
